Watch Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Video - Challenger Explosion 25 Year Anniversary

Watch Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Video - Challenger Explosion 25 Year Anniversary
Twenty-five years ago, the space shuttle Challenger took off from Cape Canaveral, Fla. About 68 seconds after launch, tragedy struck.

The shuttle exploded killing all seven on board. Today marks the Challenger explosion 25th anniversary – where were you when the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster happened? In this Today show video, they reflect on the Challenger explosion and the first schoolteacher set to make history, Christa McAuliffe.

Do you remember where you were during the Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986? The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster took place just 73 seconds into flight, and nine miles above the Atlantic.

I remember vividly sitting in a classroom, gathered around a TV set to watch history in the making.

Sadly, Christa McAuliffe and six others on board died as the cameras caught the whole explosion for the world to see.

Watch this Christa McAuliffe interview with Bryant Gumble, where she talks about being selected to be on board the Space Shuttle Challenger – it’s pretty eerie to hear her talking about it (video):
